Chemix's ultimate mission is to accelerate the global transition to sustainable energy. To achieve this ambitious goal, we are using AI to fundamentally accelerate the development and deployment of next-generation batteries for EVs and energy storage applications. Chemix's current AI platform can already provide 3x faster battery testing and 5x faster development of critical battery materials. Overall, we aim to accelerate the commercialization process for emerging battery chemistries by >10x.

Our team consists of alums from Berkeley, Stanford, and industry-leading Bay Area startups (including a successful acquisition). We are currently building an AI-powered lab at Valley Research Park in Mountain View - the heart of Silicon Valley. We are looking for interns with strong motivation to tackle big problems and a diverse technical skill set to help us grow. Being a rapidly growing startup, we expect a lot from you. What you will be working on:
- Help build our AI-powered battery research lab from the ground up. This is a very unique opportunity.
- Contribute as an integral part of our R&D lab operations through participation in experiment planning sessions and presentation of battery testing results at weekly company meetings.
- Build and test commercial format batteries and battery materials.
- Optimize and improve our AI-powered battery R&D process.

What we are looking for:
Candidates pursuing a B.S. or M.S. in Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, Chemistry, or other similar fields, with some of the following skills:
- Great communication and teamwork, and ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.
- Previous experience in Li-ion battery R&D and/or glovebox work.
- Keen interest in hands-on battery R&D experience.
- Fundamentals of chemistry, both experiment and theory.
- Programming experience in a language such as Python.
- Familiarity with basics of electronic circuits.
- Passionate about learning battery and energy storage technologies.

What you will be working on:
- Assist with software development and maintenance of Chemix's battery AI software library (in Python). This library forms the core of Chemix's self-driving battery R&D lab and enterprise SaaS products.
- Assist with customer onboarding and engagements, and see real-world use of AI for accelerating battery R&D.
- Build and maintain data pipelines for both internal and customer R&D data.
- Design and implement dashboards and web applications for internal and external (customer) use.
- Depending on ability and interest: research and implementation of ML techniques for time series forecasting and materials property prediction.

What we are looking for:
Candidates pursuing a B.S. or M.S. in Data Science, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, or other similar fields, with some of the following skills (in order of importance):
- Great communication and teamwork, and ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment
- Fluency with Python and pandas
- Experience with git, CI/CD, and software development best practices
- Experience with scikit-learn, tensorflow, plotly, basic machine learning and statistics concepts
- Experience with web application development: cloud infrastructure, user authorization, UI design, databases, etc.
- Experience with batteries and battery test data
- Familiarity with chemistry and cheminformatics
